Board Code of Conduct and Responsibilities

Board Code of Conduct (adopted October 14, 2024)

As a member of the Board of Directors of IPSC, I shall:

  1. Be faithful to the mission and vision of IPSC, particularly in terms of the cultivation of harmonious community, by relating respectfully and attentively to fellow board members and people who follow diverse religious, spiritual, and secular paths.Honor and support the decisions of the board so that in public matters the board is seen as speaking with one voice.
  2. Make attendance at regular board meetings and participation in annual meetings and board retreats a priority, and give notice in advance if circumstances prevent attendance.
  3. Offer judicious advice regarding programming, prospective public statements, and financial matters, including their oversight.
  4. Participate in strategic planning and offer service on one or more of the board committees.
  5. Share insights and opinions honestly while also listening attentively to the insights and opinions of others.
  6. Maintain a public stance of support for IPSC, its officers, and members of the board.
  7. Honor the consensus of the board and support decisions so that in public matters the board is seen as speaking with one voice.
  8. Abstain from conversation or innuendo which would undermine harmonious relations among board members or particular individuals or groups affiliated with IPSC.
  9. Understand that the board chair or the communications chair is the official spokesperson for the board, unless she/he delegates that responsibility to another.
  10. Invite others to participate in IPSC events and programs and help identify prospective new members.

Responsibilities of IPSC Board Members

  1. Be aligned with our mission, vision and values. [insert link]
  2. Agree to the Board Code of Conduct.
  3. Attend all meetings of the board of directors. If you cannot attend, give one week notice. After three absences in one year, discuss with leadership whether this position is a good fit for you, or someone new should be recruited to serve in your place.
  4. Make a yearly financial contribution to IPSC. There is no mandatory amount; you are encouraged to be as generous as you are able, and to show leadership with your giving.
  5. Serve on at least one board committee, with active participation in committee work.
  6. Share your support of IPSC and our message of harmony with your circle of friends.
  7. Support IPSC by attending our events whenever possible, and be an ambassador for IPSC by attending the events of IPSC allies and partners.
