• An Invitation from the SC Human Affairs Commission •

Mother Emanuel Nine Remembrance Day

When: Thursday, June 1 • 11:00am

Where: Chappelle Auditorium, Allen University
1530 Harden St. • Columbia, SC 29204

What: A sacred opportunity to publicly reflect on the June 17 tragedy and recommit to racial and economic equality.

“The SC Human Affairs Commission will host the “Mother Emanuel Nine Remembrance Day” each year on June 1st in Columbia to reflect on the progress made in improving race relations and economic equality for minorities.

Allen University, an institution affiliated with the AME church, lost three alumni (Reverend Clementa Pinckney, Reverend Daniel Simmons, and Tywanza Sanders) from this massacre and will share brief supplications. The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary also bereaved by the loss of two of their esteemed alumni (Reverend Pinckney and Reverend Simmons) will offer prayers for peace.

As the State reminisces on the tragedy that took place in Charleston, we find the task of eradicating racism challenging, but must remain undeterred. We hope that you will join us and return to your community with a renewed sense of why we should all be working to improve race relations and ensure economic opportunity for all South Carolinians.”

All are welcome.
